Holotropic Breathwork workshop with Renn Butler
Holotropic Breathwork™ is a technique of self-exploration that utilizes the healing power of deep breathing, evocative music, focused bodywork, and mandala drawing to enter holotropic “moving toward wholeness” states of consciousness. Following in the tradition of the shamanic practices, rites of passage and mystery religions of preindustrial and non-Western cultures, we create a supportive and caring space in which participants’ own inner healer can select the most relevant material and bring it up for processing. These sessions are helpful for people seeking relief from physical tension or emotional pain, an opening of creative channels, or a deepened connection with the inner Divine.
$125 sliding scale available (we will be providing a light vegetarian lunch)

Renn Butler has a B.A. in English and Religious Studies and lived at the Esalen Institute in California for 2½ years. He was trained in transpersonal psychology and Holotropic Breathwork by Stan and Christina Grof and certified as a facilitator in 1989. James Cunningham, Marg Yandel, and Mima Djordjevic will also be supporting participants.

J.Krishnamurti: Free DVD showing, silent sitting, dialogue, and refreshments.
J. Krishnamurti, the world-renowned 20th century philosopher and educator, has written and lectured extensively on relevant subjects such as freedom, love, truth, and meditation. His ability to tackle these themes with great honesty and insight has helped many to see themselves and the world around them in a new way. Here, we have an opportunity to take a break from the mundane and to listen to Krishnamurti and each other address these most pressing issues of our times through dialogue. This type of discussion is seen by some as purposeful awareness of the goings on of the mind while a chosen topic is being looked at. This allows us to listen to others and observe ourselves in the process of discovering each subject anew and with clarity, as though encountering it for the first time, and to share our spontaneous insight as it arises… Thus, this is an invitation to learn about ourselves and to summon the courage to act on our new discoveries. All those willing to re-examine all they’ve been taught about life, love, meditation, and innumerable belief systems are most welcome!

Gestalt Workshop and Introductory Enneatype Psychology/Art Therapist and Gestalt Counsellor/Gianni Capitani
The enneatypes of psychology were developed by Claudio Naranjo, a pioneer in humanist psychology and consciousness-raising. The term refers to nine character or ego types. We develop our character or ego as infants and children as a means of finding love in the world around us. By the time we grow into adulthood our behaviour and attitudes have become less flexible (we develop habits and fixed responses), but they no longer serve the purpose for which they were developed.
The importance of naming our enneatype is not found in identifying with it, but rather in recognizing how this character inhibits our search for love. Once we understand the ego we have fabricated, we can change our set of habits and fixed responses and begin to act more authentically.
In this workshop Gianni will give an introduction to this psychology and will introduce the European style of Gestalt therapy as a means of working with the characters in a group setting. The workshop is geared to therapists, psychotherapists, psychologists, social workers, educators, counselors, and anyone who deals with people on a regular basis.
Cost: $300 if paid by Oct. 31st, $350 at the door.

Händel’s Salon
On Friday, September 19, classical chamber ensemble Les Amusements de la Chambre will present Händel’s Salon, the first concert of their 2014/15 Season at the Church of Truth in Victoria. These beautiful works are rarely heard in live performance in Canada, so this is an early music experience that is not to be missed! Les Amusements de la Chambre, founded by keyboardist Katelyn Clark and violinist Emily Redhead, is delighted to welcome Vancouver-based soprano Dorothea Hayley as a special guest for this concert.
$25 general, $20 senior, $10 student. Tickets available at the door, or in advance at Ivy’s Bookshop (2188 Oak Bay Avenue), Munro’s Books (1108 Government Street), and online at www.amusementsdelachambre.com.

Planet Night: An Astrological Celebration of Culture, Cosmos and Psyche with Renn Butler
Join me for a fun and engaging powerpoint slideshow on astrological archetypes in the human psyche, in stages of the birth process, and in music, art, history, mythology, and comedy. We will look at the current world transits in effect for everyone.
My book Pathways to Wholeness: Archetypal Astrology and the Transpersonal Journey has just been released and books will be on sale at the event. However, please feel no pressure to buy one as I’m making very little money from them.
I will introduce the groundbreaking work of Richard Tarnas and Stanislav Grof through a series of evocative imagery and commentary. Aimed to appeal to both astrological novices and seasoned connoisseurs, I will show how transits are formed and how these energies express themselves both psychologically, and in the world views of people from history and culture.
There will be some time for questions at the end. Feel free to bring tea or snacks.
$10 for the slideshow to cover the Church rental ($5 for students and people working part-time).

Renn Butler has a B.A. in English and Religious Studies and lived at the Esalen Institute in California for 2½ years. He was trained in transpersonal psychology and Holotropic Breathwork by Stan and Christina Grof and certified as a facilitator in 1989. Margaret Yandel, James Cunningham, Mima Djordjevic, and Hendrik de Pagter will also be supporting participants.

Since 1996 Nancy has been studying with specialists from Aboriginal, Buddhist, Baha’i, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, and Sufi traditions. She weaves healing soundscapes that people describe as “otherworldly”. These mysterious, soul-stirring sounds help you shift into states of consciousness normally accomplished only through years of meditation. “This sound elixir will shift your state of being”–PB
Anand, formerly known as David Embry, (www.bluelotus.org) has traveled widely spending over 30 years musically gathering and collecting from many traditions. He brings together a unique blend of ‘Unity Kirtan’ chanting, beautiful flute and vocal improvisations, and a deep commitment to using music as a sacred healing art form. “I had the sensations of being cradled in the very essence of sound.” Pania Witoko, New Zealand

Oneness Wednesdays – Combining Mind, Body and Breath – the Ancient Art of Health and Longevity
With Lynn Gordon
Relaxation is the heart and the key to all other endeavours.
Relaxation means letting go and this is not so easy, but health and freedom begin here.
Breathing and meditation are intrinsic to the exercises. We will also engage with simple self-massage practices that induce energy flow and well-being.
Lynn has been training for more than 30 years and teaching for over 20 years.
These will be largely experiential sessions using exercises and techniques from Chi Kung and Tai Chi.
Everyone will be able to participate including those whose physical condition requires them to sit rather than stand.
Monday through Friday, 10 AM – 12 NOON

J.Krishnamurti: Is it possible to transform our conditioning deeply? Free DVD showing, refreshments, dialogue.
J. Krishnamurti, the world-renowned 20th century philosopher and educator, has written and lectured extensively on relevant subjects such as freedom, love, truth and meditation. His ability to tackle these themes with great honesty and insight has helped many to see themselves and the world around them in a new way. We will listen to him and each other tackle the important topics of our time and have an opportunity to take a break from the mundane to address these issues through dialogue. This type of discussion is seen by some as purposeful awareness of the goings on of the mind while a chosen topic is being looked at. This allows us to listen to others and observe ourselves in the process of discovering each subject anew and with clarity, as though encountering it for the first time. Thus, this is an invitation to learn about ourselves and to summon the courage to act on our new discoveries.

It is for people who are ready to let go of “getting it right” and embrace letting it just happen. This utterly experiential program is a powerful experience of being alive and present. We’ll explore the skill set of the improviser: deep listening, working with change, following and trusting intuition spontaneity, fluid awareness of self and others.
