An Evening of Light Language & Sacred Sounds / with Sofia Jewel & Ocian Flo

An evening of healing through sacred sound and light language activation. Light Language we’ll be sung and spoken throughout the evening, along with the sacred sounds of crystal bowls played by Ocian Flo. For those who are new to Light Language, it tends to bring a response of love, emotional release, a feeling of belonging and home-like sense, and knowing when you hear it. Light Language is the communication of our evolution, and has come forth to support us through the process of the embodiment of our Divine Self. Light Language speaks the connected language of the heart, rather than the known language of the mind. Light Language carries encoded energy/information, that unlocks specifically within you, accessing what you need at any given time, specifically unique to you in support to your Soul’s progression.

There will be 7 Activations through Light Language: Belonging, Hope, Love, Purpose/Unity, Joy, Peace, and Grace

Bring comfortable clothing, a yoga mat to lay down and blanket.

To register for the event, email Sofia Jewel at sofi.mdc@gmail.com. She will send a paypal request or you can send an etransfer. $25 / at the door $30

Saturday July 13th at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday July 14th at 2:00 p.m.
Paul Hedderman:  Nonduality and Recovery

Back by popular demand… Paul’s philosophy blends the wisdom of nonduality with his experience in the recovery community since 1988. Beautifully illuminated by the teachings of Zen, A Course in Miracles and nonduality, and delivered with great humour, Paul offers a most unique style that goes deep into the dilemma of human existence. He exposes the futility of finding happiness and contentment by way of a self centered mode of being.  Known for his animated and engaging delivery (with occasional salty language!), his talks are honest, dynamic invitations to recognize the wholeness of what we truly are – by virtue of seeing clearly what we are not.

Suggested donation of $20-25 for each date (no one turned away for lack of funds).

The Stillness Within Meet-up are sponsoring this event (register here [http://meetu.ps/c/BL2g/1vN4m/a) or contact Shannon [stillnessMeetup@gmail.com] for information.

ZIGUE with special guests Qristina Brooke and Aime Methe

ZIGUE are Claude Méthé and Dana Whittle, this dynamic duo have been playing, composing and sharing everything in music and in life.  Married for over 20 years, they are both singers and songwriters that brim with creativity and love for the style of music they create together, inspired primarily by Quebec’s traditional roots.   Zigue is an amalgam, a fusion of simple and complementary elements drawn from the contemporary terroir of their imagination. Claude’s traditional violin playing and his poignant and authentic songs are supported by Dana’s rhythmic guitar and percussive “pieds”.   As a duo, they bring out their passionate bond and infectious energy, the type of magic found only within a musical family. To make it more of a ‘family affair’ their son Aime Methe will be joining them on this performance!

Qristina Brooke, (aka Bachand) is well known for her expressive fiddling style and sincere vocals, Her contagious energy and love of Folk and Celtic music is always at the forefront as she captivates her audiences with energetic and spirited performances showcasing her fiddling and vocal talents. Qristina enjoys performing a repertoire of original and traditional songs that bring out deep emotions with which people can easily relate.

AFRO-CARIBBEAN DANCE CLASS with Dance Ethnologist, Lasensua Osborne

The MOST fun you’ll ever have at a dance class! A warm Victoria welcome to Canadian-born Lasensua Osborne. I’ve been dancing with Lasensua for twenty years and am honoured to bring her to Victoria, share these traditions with the community here and inspire some multi-cultural play! Her classes are a beautiful respite from an intense world, where tradition, ritual, prayer and celebration are embodied through various African inspired dance traditions.

Her focus in these classes will be on ceremonial and social dances of Haiti and Cuba. All levels of dance experience are welcome. Inspiring and fun classes for everyone!

We are blessed to have live drumming accompaniment from many former Masala members (a kickin’ Brazilian drum group local to Victoria!) Special thanks to Christopher Maseev for his support in organizing an amazing ensemble of drummers.

$12-20 donation

Please bring tip money to show your appreciation for our drummers.

Not mandatory, but if you can, please bring a long wide skirt or sarong for dancing.

Lasensua is a dance ethnologist and has been teaching and performing internationally, and in the Hawaiian Islands for the past 28 years.

Our gathering will take place on the traditional territories of the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations, in unceded Lekwungen Territory. I am deeply grateful and humbled to these people for their stewardship of this beautiful land where I am blessed to live and share offerings.

Creative Expression is not just a fun thing, it’s a Gift. It’s a Lifeline.  Please join us for an extraordinary evening of the creativity, stimulating talks, and a special viewing of the DVD Madness, Masks and Miracles, a play to dispel myths and stigmas about mental illness. https://junieswadron.com/madness-masks-and-miracles/

It’s about the madness, or the dark night of the soul that we all go through from time to time as we walk this earthly walk, the masks we wear in public to keep from being judged and ostracized – disguises that cover over the  heartbreak of a sick child or the fear when we lose our job or the grief  we carry when a loved one passes away. We say “fine, thank you” instead of “I’m scared. The play is also about the miracles that allow us to take off our masks and be real – be who we really are – beautiful, loving, kind, creative, alive and vulnerable all at the same time!  It is only when all of us feel safe enough to shed the masks and speak authentically from our hearts that the madness ends and the miracles begin. That’s what A.C.H.A. is all about!

Be Part of a New Movement for Mental Health!

June 21st is a Startup and an opportunity to be part of a movement that will enhance the lives of countless people living with mental health challenges, their families and friends and you and me.  It’s a cultural, societal, situation. Not something to hide away. Mental Illness affects everyone. That it is why it is an integrated Centre FOR Everyone! The Academy for Creative and Healing Arts is a template for a HUB and for Cultural Centres worldwide that begins right here in Victoria, BC.

SoulCollage®: Journey with the Archetypes with Heidi Erhardt

This half-day playshop is for lovers of self-exploration and creativity. We will explore two of the four suits in the SoulCollage process and how they relate and draw upon Jungian archetypes. You will awaken your intuition and engage your curiosity as you begin to create your very own tarot deck. Within a safe and supportive container, you will create cards for the Committee and Council Suits, journal write, dyad and be deeply nourished from the wisdom that your cards proffer.

THE PROCESS:
You will enter a room with tables covered in a myriad of images. Your intuitive self will choose from among them and you will collage these images into a card. Later, through a Gestalt process, you will hear the wisdom the card has for you and receive a glimpse into your own soul’s workings. You will journal and share to integrate the messages that come.

Please bring your journal or pen/paper, scissors, glue stick and your creative spirit.

For those of you new to Surfacing: Surfacing is an exploratory and experiential somatic movement practice grounded in the responsive body and our relationship to ourselves, and our environments. It is a creative, joyful and gentle embodied practice that encourages receptiveness, curiosity, and a deeper awareness of being. Surfacing is designed so that we generate our own energy without pushing or forcing. Through self- generated explorations and movement inquiries, improvisation, journaling, and shared space we begin to reveal, unravel and experience ourselves as expressive, pliable, potent and responsive beings. A movement class for the soul.

A Testimonial
“Despite my decades of studying the Body (Yoga, mitzvah, feldenkrais, somatics etc), my time with Connie showed me new ways of relating to my body and new horizons in which to explore. I discovered areas of my body that I didn’t know were tight or shut down. Connie has such warm, healing intuitive hands. The work was gentle and it was such a joy to come home to places in myself I had forgotten or abandoned. I left feeling more spacious, happy , light and grounded. Thank you Connie!!!” Ocean Lum (Yoga Teacher)

I look forward to connecting with you.
If you have any questions let me know I will be happy to chat.

An Evening of Sublime Persian and Western Folk Music featuring AMIR AMIRI – Santur, HAMIN HONARI – Tombak/Daf and RICHARD MOODY – Western folk violin

There are no borders between east and west in the eclectic music of Moody Amiri, a duo comprised of Amir Amiri (santur) and Richard Moody (viola). Inspired by the diversity and fluidity between their respective Persian and western classical and jazz training, Amiri and Moody have created an engaging and distinctive sound fusing elements of traditional Persian music with jazz, classical, Indian, and modern spiritual styles. They will be joined by international Persian percussion maestro, Hamin Honari.

Amiri (Canada-Iran) and Moody (Canada) met in 2011, and in their collaboration seek to expand the boundaries of their respective musical backgrounds. Balancing tradition and innovation and finding that possibilities are limitless, Moody Amiri has already gained recognition for its ground-breaking contributions to the international music scene, nominated for western Canadian Music Awards 2014. Moody Amiri will be accompanied by special guest Iranian percussionist from Vancouver, Hamin Honari. Persian Tombak virtuoso Hamin Honari has toured the world with the legendary Dastan Ensemble, one of Iran’s most well-known Persian classical music ensembles.

ABOUT AMIR AMIRI
Amir Amiri was born in Tehran, Iran where much of his youth was spent studying the santur, a 72-string hammer dulcimer that lies at the heart of Persian classical music. He also studied Indian classical music with some of the masters, including Ravi Shankar and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. While he is classically trained, Amiri has always sought to explore the limits of his music, stretching beyond the constraints of classical thought. Arriving in Canada in 1996, Amiri found the ability to do just that, while in residency at The Banff Centre for the Arts, a haven of inspiration to which he has returned many times. While exploring the limits of his music, he has found that there are none. In 2003, Amiri was awarded Artist of the Year from CBC Galaxie Rising Stars.

ABOUT HAMIN HONARI

Hamin Honari  is a Iranian-Canadian hand drummer who has specialized on the Iranian hand drum, Tombak.  He has focused on adapting his drumming style and technique to accommodate many different genres of music. He has toured as a member of some of Iran’s most well-known traditional music ensembles and has performed with many amazing musicians and singers such as Salar Aghili, Parissa, Hossein Omoumi, Hossein Behroozinia, Saeed Farajpouri, and Itamar Erez.  Hamin lives in Vancouver, BC where he is actively teaching and performing Persian and middle-eastern hand drums.
