Welcome
Conveniently situated near downtown Victoria by Fisherman’s Wharf in James Bay, the Church of Truth has been one of Victoria’s most popular rental venues since it opened. Events held at the church include: workshops, seminars, meetings, concerts, weddings, dances, memorials, and MAID ceremonies.
The main hall features beautifully crafted hardwood floors, a grand piano, an audio-visual system, vaulted ceilings and a delightful ambiance. Additional smaller rooms provide extra meeting spaces as required, three bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen provide a wide range of options for facility rentals.

Rental Rates for Space at the Church of Truth Community of Conscious Living, updated Jan 2025:
**When booking your hours, please be sure to ask for the hours you need the space, including setup and cleanup, not just the hours of your event. Please note that you are expected to leave the space clean (ie sweep or vacuum and take any garbage with you) for the next guests.**
*Due to noise bylaws and out of consideration for our neighbours, events must end by 10 pm.*
~Sanctuary $42 per hour ; $23 per half hour
Please note the minimum charges for the Sanctuary evenings:
3 hours Sunday to Thursday evenings= $126
4 hours Friday and Saturday evenings= $168
*Please note that renting the Sanctuary, or one of the other rooms, does not guarantee that your group will be the only rental in the building at that time. If you wish to have no other rentals at the time you are in the Church, please rent the Whole Building (see section below).
*Also note that renting one room only gives you access to that room and to (a) washroom(s) and does not include access to other spaces. Please respect our Church by only accessing/using the spaces you have paid to access.

Kitchen $49 per (up to) 4 hours ; $14 per hour ; $9 per half hour (3 hour minimum)

Additional Considerations:
Changes: Please note that any requests for changes to preexisting contracts will be made (as possible) for a charge of $25, payable immediately, in consideration of the administrative work this creates.
Invoices: If you require an invoice in addition to your rental contract, this will be issued for an additional charge of $5 per invoice.
Receipts: Rental receipts will be issued free of charge by special request.
Payment: Rental contracts are payable in full 30 days in advance of your event/the beginning of your rental term. Payment may be made by etransfer or by cheque.
Cancellations: Currently we accept cancellations up to 30 days before your event/the beginning of your rental term free of charge. Cancellations made less than 30 days prior to your event/beginning of your rental require payment in full.
Damages: While we currently do not charge a damage deposit, your rental contract requires you to accept full responsibility/ liability for any damages that are incurred during your rental.
Front Entrance Foyer Area
As you enter the Church of Truth – Community of Conscious Living, you will be greeted by a lovely spray painting created by members Brian Martin and Lorna Rennie. If you look closely, you will see two birds embedded within.
Sanctuary
This beautiful and sacred sanctuary is a wonderful space for public events, especially musical performances or concerts thanks to its great acoustics. Workshops, seminars, meditation/yoga and private functions such as weddings, memorials/celebrations of life are popular uses for this space.
The seating capacity is 94 people. There are 80 grey armless stacking cushioned chairs + 14 green stacking cushioned chairs with arms that can be arranged in a variety of configurations depending on your requirements. There is also a variety of folding tables available for use in the library closet.
The sanctuary wood floor dimensions are approximately 28’ x 28’ with a riser to a front stage 9′ x 16′ and side stages on either side of 6′ x 16′.
Breakout Rooms
If your function should require additional space, these extra rooms may be ideal for you. It is also possible to rent any of these rooms without the large sanctuary area depending upon what other activities are taking place in the building. Talk to our Rental Coordinator about how we can create a space that fits your needs.
Library
The library is a small room (12′ x 20′) has currently become a storage area for extra chairs. There are tables in the back closet.
A wheelled trolley is available for your use when serving tea or coffee. Cups are stored under the counter of the trolley. A dishwasher and sink in the kitchen make clean up easy.
Yellow Room
This room (12′ x 18′) can easily be used as a breakout room. Tables and chairs can easily be set up in this room.
Quiet Area
To the left as you enter the front door, before you enter the Sanctuary is a cozy room (approximately 12′ x 14′) which can be set up with 6 to 8 chairs in addition to a comfortable couch. This room can be used for small group meditations and informal group meetings/discussions.
Other Spaces to Make Your Function A Success
Kitchen
Our small kitchen includes a stove, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave oven, dishwasher, sink, cupboards and counters. If you rent the kitchen, this also includes use of one 55 cup coffee urn plus a smaller 30 cup hot water urn in addition to serving trays, an assortment of plates, bowls, cups and cutlery. There are also a couple of cutting boards located in bottom cupboard by the dishwasher plus knives and serving utensils located in one of the drawers by the stove.
Washrooms
There are three washrooms for public use (one is designated for wheelchair access) in the building. Two are located to the left and right as you enter the foyer area and the third one is located by the kitchen behind the sanctuary (this washroom also has a closet where you will find a broom, dust pan and other cleaning supplies).
Closet
To the left of the entrance foyer area by the wheelchair access washroom there is a closet for hanging up coats.
Bike Racks
On the west side of the church on St. Lawrence Street are two bike racks for public use.
Audio Visual Equipment/Wireless Internet
The church is equipped with wireless internet (Telus login) as well as a 60-inch TV.
The TV has HDMI and VGA connections.
The audio visual equipment is available to renters under the following conditions:
- A rental fee of $60 (sound only $39).
- The person operating the equipment must have a training session.
Parking
- Church parking: 2 spots in front (evenings and weekends) and 6 behind the church.
- Superior Street: 2 hour parking Monday to Friday 8 am – 5 pm
- St. Lawrence Street: East side residential only, west side unlimited parking. In front of the church: 2 hour parking Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 6 pm
- Fisherman’s Wharf – paid parking
